The renovated barn is located in the Central Bohemian Region, west of Příbram, in the central part of the village of Vysoká u Příbramě. The more than one-hundred-year-old agricultural building forms a traditional L-shaped layout together with the original residential house. Externally, the structure appears simple, built of mixed masonry with a ceramic tiled roof, yet it conceals a surprisingly generous interior. Entering through one of the original carriage passages reveals an impressive volume measuring 10 meters in width, 21 meters in length, and up to 10 meters in height. Once cleared, the interior can be perceived as a unified whole, giving the space an almost sacral character — reminiscent of an “agricultural cathedral.” This remarkable volume becomes the heart of the new yoga house.
The aim of the study is to transform the barn into a fully functional social venue with facilities for yoga practice, accommodation, and flexible use for workshops or family events. The existing structure remains exposed in the interior, while thermal insulation is applied externally. The main yoga hall utilizes the full height of the barn and is illuminated by continuous roof skylights. A two-storey wooden module containing guest rooms is inserted into the center of the building, creating a cozy lounge with a fireplace beneath it. A northern extension accommodates service areas, bathrooms, and three additional rooms.
The interior design works with the contrast between the original mixed masonry walls and newly inserted wooden elements. The exterior is unified by timber cladding made of traditional planks and stone detailing. The roof is designed with lightweight titanium-zinc sheeting. Overall, the house feels contemporary while employing materials that age naturally and respect local building traditions.
