Installation Tuxofon Promoted the Czech Penguin Festival

In 2011, a temporary multimedia installation titled Tuxofon was placed in front of the National Technical Library in Prague. The eight-metre-tall sculpture in the shape of a penguin was created as part of the promotion for the competitive festival of young artists, Czech Penguin.

The installation functioned as a public interactive exhibit. Every fifteen minutes it addressed passers-by and engaged them in small performative actions. The project also included the distribution of festival tickets – visitors could take a photograph with the sculpture and receive free entry to selected festival events.

The Czech Penguin Festival was intended for artists under the age of 30 and took place in several Prague clubs, including Roxy, 2. Patro and the experimental venue NoD. The programme featured four competition categories: visual arts, music, film and theatre.

The multimedia object Tuxofon was first installed in front of the National Technical Library and was later moved on 1 October to Náměstí Republiky, where it remained on display until approximately 10 October. For a short period, the installation enlivened the city’s public space while simultaneously drawing attention to the ongoing cultural festival.
